PUTTING FEMALE TALENT INTO THE MARKET

Is a genre film directed by a woman still a rare find in the international market? What marketing value is assigned within the industry to this distinctive feature? This panel evaluates the growing importance and visibility of female talent in the film industry from the perspective of distributors and producers. We will be joined by three prominent distributors, Priscilla Smith, Manon Barat, and Antonia Nava, who will share their experiences and insights on how to promote and market women-led projects in a competitive market.

Female Massacre
PRODUCE WITH A WOMAN DIRECTOR, WHY NOT?

The success of filmmakers like Julia Ducournau, Ana Lily Amirpour, Jennifer Kent, and more re-cently, Coralie Fargeat, shows that there is a mar-ket eager to see productions directed by women. This roundtable discusses the authorial and com-mercial value of female directors in the fantasy genre within the film landscape. The panel will feature renowned producers Enrique López-Lavigne, Mar Targarona, and Nuria Valls, who will share their experiences, challenges, and motiva-tions for working with female directors in their productions.

FROM FINAL GIRL TO KILLER

There is no film genre that has bet more on fema-le representation on the big screen than fantasy and, in particular, horror. This session explores the evolution of one of the most iconic archetypes in horror cinema, the ‘final girl,’ transformed into avengers and even villains. Three experts will dis-cuss the portrayal of female protagonists in gen-re cinema: actress Lauren LaVera, known for her work in cult horror films like Terrifier; director Iván Fund, passionate about 1980s genre cinema and recognized for his authorial vision; and ho-rror film expert Desirée de Fez, who will moderate the discussion.

In My Skin:
THE EXPERIENCE OF MEN AND WOMEN DIRECTING FANTASTIC FILMS.

With their own words and experiences, pairs of filmmakers will highlight their beginnings, their careers, the obstacles and difficulties they have faced with their projects. This series of dialogues brings together prominent directors and female directors of fantastic cinema to explore different perspectives and experiences. The session will be moderated by Rubén Gutiérrez del Castillo, Ge-neral Director of SGAE Spain, and the dialogues will feature:

Bloody Obsession:
WRITING ABOUT WOMEN AND HORROR

Interest in female creators within the fantasy gen-re has led to the production of three fascinating studies in recent years. In this session, the three responsible authors will present the topics and di-rectors they have covered, and, most importantly, their conclusions about the legacy of women in the genre. The speakers are three prominent au-thors and experts in the field: Mònica García Mas-sagué, coordinator of the book Horror Girls; Heidi Honeycutt, author of I Spit on Your Celluloid; and Victoria McCollum, author of Bloody Women: Wo-men Directors of Horror (Critical Conversations in Horror Studies). Alice Lowe, present at the festival since the beginning of her career, will present her new film titled Timestalker at this edition.

Encounter with Heather Langenkamp

Heather Langenkamp Sitges Encounters includes talks with the great figures of genre cinema parti-cipating in this edition of the festival.
Heather Langenkamp will receive the Time Machine Award 2024. She began her career in Coppola’s films Outside the Box and The Outsiders, before playing her most famous role: Nancy Thompson, in A Nightmare on Elm Street, A Ni-ghtmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and Wes Craven’s New Nightmare. She has supervised the special effects company AFX Studio with her hus-band, working with directors such as Zack Snyder. Recently, she has appea-red in the series The Midnight Club and the film The Life of Chuck.

Coralie Fargeat meets Carlota Pereda

Fascinating encounter between two of the most provocative and fresh voices in contemporary horror and thriller cinema. Spanish director Car-lota Pereda, known for her acclaimed film Cer-dita (Piggy), will interview French filmmaker Coralie Fargeat, internationally recognized for her powerful genre debut Revenge and currently in the spotlight for The Substance. This intimate and deep dialogue will offer a unique opportunity to explore their views on cinema, the genre, and female perspectives in directing.

Behind and In Front of the camera:
ACTRESS - DIRECTORS

In this talk, we will explore the intriguing inter-section between acting and directing from the perspective of actresses who also take on the role of directors. Kate Siegel will share her experien-ces and insights on how balancing the dual roles of actress and director influences her creative approach and decision-making on set. We will examine how these professionals tackle the cha-llenge of managing work in front of the camera while overseeing the directorial responsibilities, and how their acting experience enriches their vision as directors. Additionally, we will discuss case studies and examples from her own work, offering a unique perspective on the dynamics and benefits of performing both roles in the world of film and television.
