HORROR GIRLS. WomanInFan Europe

WomanInFan 2024

SYNOPSIS

In 1973, the first horror film directed by a woman in Spain was released. The film was ‘Vera, a cruel tale’ and its director was Josefina Molina. More than fifty years later, only twenty female directors have approached the genre in our country. What political, social and cultural factors have influenced making fantasy a field of overwhelming male authorship are part of the analysis of WomanInFan’s new volume, focused on European production, and titled ‘Horror Girls. WomanInFan Europe’. The title pays tribute to the late film historian David J. Skal, who defined himself as a “monster boy.” In this sense, the volume exposes the pioneering and referential European ‘horror girls’ with a special focus on four filmographies: Spain, France, Germany and Italy.

MISTRESS OF FAN. Monsters, creatures and nightmares spawned by them

WomanInFan 2023

SYNOPSIS

For a new world of goddesses and monsters! And let’s remember, to paraphrase Vampira, demons can be a woman’s best friends.

This book covers the more or less accredited trajectory of titles related to traditions such as extremism, rape and revenge (revenge after rape), slasher, science fiction and zombies, as an example of female talent in capital works (or not). both) of the fantasy genre.

In order to pay tribute to the creation, we have decided to add the career of the famous “Horror TV Hosts” (hostesses of television horror programs), authentic prescribers of the love for the genre and who, with their sole presence on the big screen, illuminated true popular culture icons. We are referring, of course, to Vampira (Maila Nurmi), Moona Lisa or the incombustible Elvira, who is still active leading her Queen B Productions and elevating her macabre femininity to the altars of ‘merchandising’.

TOPOGRAPHY OF THE FANTASTIC GENRE
DIRECTED BY WOMEN

WomanInFan 2022

SYNOPSIS

The cultural and social patterns that prevail in the film industry have traditionally identified gender determinants as characteristic of feminine sensibility, trusting the leadership of projects in horror, science fiction, action or thriller, for example, the homes creators; as long as, per part seva, the gifts do not identify the fantastic with a genre to its supply. I face that they have traditionally been ‘rare sights’, the large films of fantastic genre directed by those who have been so successful, especially in the last few years, have gone to a more interesting field in which stand out noms such as Karen Arthur, Mary Harron, Claire Denis, Marina de Van, Jennifer Lynch, Kathryn Bigelow, the Wachowski Germans, Karyn Kusama, Anna Biller, Julia Ducournau and a long etcetera. This study on the female filmmaker in the fantasy genre appears not exempt from a controversy of fons, sorted by the decomposition of media attention, greater cap to the gifts and its link with terror: we must continue exposing the light Public this minority statistics and the unequal treatment of the industry cap the donation to the fantastic, or why start to normalize the work of the filmmakers in this land? Possessing one of the most stimulating aspects at the end of the fantasy genre, it continues to be able to configure per fi its particular narrative, using a different approach or sensibilities, or not, but in some cases in projects signed and led by them.
